There's a moment when you slide a card across the table and someone picks it up. They turn it over. They look at the art. They put it next to their character sheet and it stays there for six sessions, slowly getting a coffee ring on it.
No amount of tab-switching does that. The whole point of playing in person is that things exist in the room, and for the last decade the trade has been: go digital and give that up. Card Forge is the bit of Grimoire that hands it back.
The NPC you wrote on Tuesday (portrait, name, and the table-safe details you want at hand) is a printable card on Friday. You didn't retype anything. It was already in your grimoire.

THE FIRST USEFUL OUTPUT
Four small steps, then a card.
- 1. Create your free accountConfirm your email, then choose DM when the welcome screen asks where you want to land.
- 2. Start one campaignFrom the dashboard, choose Create Campaign and give it a name. The defaults are enough for a first pass.
- 3. Add one NPC or itemCreate or select one table-safe NPC or item with only the details you want players to see.
- 4. Open Card ForgeOpen Card Forge from the app navigation, select that NPC or item, preview both sides, and use Print on desktop when ready.
Six things worth printing
NPCs
Portrait on the front, the table-safe details you want at hand on the back. The party meets someone; the party keeps someone.
Monsters
Stat cards for the things they fight. Deal one face-down and let them wonder what you're holding.
Items
Magic items your players can physically own, trade across the table and lose down the side of a sofa.
Spells
A caster's prepared list as a hand of cards. Tapping out feels very different when the card goes face-down.
Downtime
Interlude draws as a deck: the seeds and outcomes from the downtime system, dealt rather than rolled.
Loot packs
Loot mode builds a stack from a haul instead of a search. Hand the whole pile over after the boss.
SIZES, STYLES, BACKS
Trading-card sized or tarot sized. Inked or modern. Then a back that ties the deck together.
Trading-card sized prints use the 63×88mm standard, so standard trading-card sleeves are a practical fit; check the dimensions of any deck box or holder. Tarot-sized cards are bigger and more theatrical, which is exactly right for a villain reveal or a deck of items the party is going to argue over.
Pick inked for the older, hand-drawn grimoire look, or modernfor something cleaner. Then choose a shared back from the deck back picker, so a stack of your cards reads as a set rather than a pile of printouts.
TWO WAYS TO BUILD A STACK
Collections you curate, or loot you just hand over.
Collection mode is the deliberate one. Pick entities from across your campaign, arrange them, save the set, reprint it whenever a card goes missing. This is how you make the recurring cast, the shop inventory, or a caster's prepared spells.
Loot mode is the fast one. You've just killed something with a hoard; build a stack from the haul and print it. The party doesn't get a list read aloud, they get a pile of cards to divide, which is a meaningfully better ten minutes of everyone's evening.
Either way, the output is laid out on A4 print sheets. Use the browser's print dialog to print at actual size or save a PDF, without exporting to a design tool first.
Questions a DM would actually ask
What sizes do the cards print at?
Standard trading-card size (63×88mm, compatible with standard trading-card sleeves and many deck boxes) and tarot size (70×120mm) for when you want the art to have room to breathe.
Do I need a special printer?
No. Card Forge lays the cards out on A4 print sheets. Print at actual size, check the front/back alignment with a test sheet, then cut and sleeve if you like.
Can I control what's on the back?
Yes, there's a deck back picker, so a deck can share a common back like a real card game. Fronts pull from the entity itself: portrait, name, the stats and the description you wrote.
What are the two styles?
Inked is the hand-drawn, older-grimoire look. Modern is cleaner and closer to a contemporary card game. Same data, same layout engine, two very different tables' worth of taste.
Do I have to rebuild a deck every time?
No. Save a set as a collection and load it again later. The party's recurring cast, the shop's stock list, the boss's spell hand. Build once, reprint whenever someone loses one.
Does the art have to be AI-generated?
No new generation is required. Card Forge uses the art and details already stored on the NPC, monster or item you select, so you can bring table-safe content you prepared yourself.
Does Card Forge replace my campaign manager?
It is a publishing tool inside Grimoire. Your campaign entities remain the source; Card Forge selects them and lays them out for print without asking you to retype the card.
